Undergrad Work (2016-2020) > Thom Shaw Brochure

During this project my class was asked to choose an alumni of the Art Academy of Cincinnati and to create a brochure honoring the alumni, which would be sent to prospective students along with other information regarding the school. The goal of the brochure is to educate the student on who the alumni is, what they do/did, and to give the viewer a sense of "this could be me creating for others some day", just as my class did for them.
My design incorporates the work and aesthetic of Thom Shaw, a Cincinnati based artist and designer. Shaw is a renowned graphic designer but mostly regarded for his woodblock prints. Acting as a sort of "infographic", the brochure is meant to be taken out of the envelope, opened, and then viewed at full spread. The front of the brochure offers all of the information about Thom Shaw, while the back of the design features a poster sized print of Thom's woodblock print "Last Supper". I wanted my design to be something the student would keep rather than throw away or tuck into a drawer. The student getting this "brochure" in the mail is confronted with a gift that they open by peeling off the sticker. After opening, the viewer is given all of the information they need about the artist on one side, and a piece of art on the back side that they can hang up and keep.
